I love an out of the blue call from an old friend! What a treat.
This evening I received one from someone I have known now from 20 years, my friend Chris Wangro, he lives upstate NYC with his family. I usually hear from him once or twice a year via email or a quick call. Chris was my first boss when I moved to NYC, which I think might have been Winter 2016. He gave me my first job, we became good friends and worked together for many years. During that first year Wangro's best friend Jamie had gotten very sick with brain cancer and passed away, I remember helping them plan Jamie's wedding at Chris' house and shortly after the mourning of his loss. Tonight as we were talking I said something in reference to time, "remember Jamie was still alive then" Had it really been 20 years? Chris shared with me something so special I am bursting to share it with you. Jamie had been an artist, who documented 18 years of his life by taking a Polaroid photo everyday of his life from 1979 until he died in 1997. In 2007, his friends had taken the photos in an effort to put together a 10 year celebration of Jamie's life, they scanned them all online in order to reproduce the pictures. A journalist saw the website and was intrigued by what it could be, he wrote a story based on what he thought happened. The article took on a life of it's own and various news outlets reported on it, Jamie was touted as the father of Instagram (or at least the idea of daily documentation) and celebrated worldwide, the photos now live on a website and from what I understand millions of people around the world have enjoyed taking Jamie's journey with them. Millennials even use the day of their birth pic as their social media photo. Kinda neat right? I love this, I'm sad for the loss of Jamie for people who knew and loved him, but I'm elated and inspired that he lives on forever on the internet. Fall hasn't taken any time getting to Michigan this year, it started budging its way in before Labor Day and I find myself wearing huge cardigans to stay warm while I work.
Fall in Michigan usually doesn't last too long, not like Fall on the East Coast where you get weeks to ease into Fall fashion, pumpkin spice and veggie chili, in Michigan you have about 15 days and it will begin to snow. Maybe I'm a bit over dramatic, I love Fall and don't look forward to snow. TAKING ACTION In other news, I signed up for Terri Cole's Boundary Bootcamp, an 8 week program that helps you look at your boundary style and helps you create new habits along with healthy boundaries. I'm thrilled, Terri is my teacher Gabby Bernstein's teacher, I got to meet her at Soul Camp last month, she is incredibly intelligent and inspiring. You can check her out here: www.terricole.com WHAT I'M READING I also started reading the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Thank you to the fab Julie Santiago for the reminder, I have been meaning to pick up this book for a few years now and keep forgetting. See the link below to get your own copy of this must read. YUM, YUM Lately I've been cooking a lot! The Soul Camp Cookbook is amazing, you download it from their website for $25, the options are both veggie/vegan or meat eaters, so far they are going over really well with everyone in my house, including the kids, which is a miracle because they usually dislike anything that might be remotely good for you. Soul Camp Cookbook RITUALS Changing seasons, it's a time to start some new rituals and renew some old. Tonight I will be taking a new exercise class, I'm normally a yoga girl with a little spinning on the side, but I feel like trying something new so I'm headed to Orangetheory. I'll keep you posted on how that works out. I'm also going to be doing a clearing ritual this week, writing down things I need to clear out of my life to make way for new experiences and new energy. Write down your items on a small piece of paper, and when inspired release these items into a fire or burn safely. "I release these things that don't serve me to make space in my life for the positive experiences and energies fall has to bring" Happy Fall Everyone! xo This April while nursing a semi-broken heart I found a link on a woman I am antiquated with Facebook page for Soul Camp. Adult sleep away camp for the soul...
I love camp, my parents sent me to day camp, sleep away camp, I was a counselor at camp. Each time I went alone, not knowing anyone, each time I made friends and memories I still have today, seriously I speak to people from my childhood camp experiences once a month, still! In an instant I knew Soul Camp was for me, yoga, breath work, past live regression, how to use crystals, yes, that's me. If you know me, you know, no brainier, camp + hippie stuff = Shanon. I signed up right away and waited... It's been a week since I returned from Soul Camp, upstate in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. At camp they refer to this time as integration, coming back into the real world. Soul Camp was an experience like no other. When trying to come up with a way to explain my experience with camp co-creator Ali L, "unconditional love" is all I could say. Everyone at Soul Camp arrived to do work on themselves, to become a better version of themselves, they brought with them pure unconditional love and support to everyone around them. The vibration is so high and positive you are on a cloud the entire time. People walk by you and just let you know they love you, for who you are, nothing more, and request nothing in return. I wanted to share some of the resources of incredible teachers I was blessed to encounter at Soul Camp, as well I encourage you, if you are walking a spiritual path and want to take it to the next level, please take a look at attending Soul Camp, I know that I am changed by my experience, I am a better person, more inspired and these 200+ beautiful people helped me to find the next phase of my journey. I've been doing workshops and trainings for many years, I've never had an experience like Soul Camp. If I could buy you all a ticket to Soul Camp I would in a second, hey... maybe I work on that for my next manifestation. xo Soul Camp - Adult Sleepway Camp For The Soul Terri Cole - Real Love Revolution & Boundary Bootcamp Molly Carmel - The Beacon Program - Breaking Up With Sugar & Finding Freedom In Your Body Mira Kelley - Past Life Regression Patricia Moreno - Intensati (just check it out! Kathleen Booker - Breathing For Freedom Alionka Polanco - Big Vision & Ideal Life Creation Btw these are in no particular order, all of these teachers left a huge imprint on me and my gratitude is undying. I love you all, yes, you, I love you. |
